Joan Williams
Joan
is a fitness professional in the Tampa Bay area, and has been instructing
at gyms and wellness centers since 1981. She has owned and operated
Joan's Body Shop, with fitness studios in Clearwater and Tarpon Springs.
In
1999 Joan was intrigued by the promises of Joseph Pilates that stated:
"In ten sessions you will feel the difference, in twenty you
will see the difference and in thirty you will have a whole new body."
Joan says: "Having taught aerobics and toning for almost 20 years,
I was curious about the practice, because I always felt that the truth
about exercise was being aware of the form and control of one's body.
I was pleasantly surprised that Pilates offered me much more than
I ever anticipated. Feeling lighter, more relaxed and at the same
time stronger, I was sold on the very gentle form of exercise. It
was so wonderful to feel rejuvenated after each and every class. Pilates
isn't 'mechanical'. It should be practiced with your mind's eye on
all the basic principles, particularly emphasizing movement from the
core."

Thirty
minutes of fun filled low Impact cardio work out for 30 minutes to
kick up metabolism.
Then
immediately following Classical Pilates... Joan's signature class
is set to music, is focused and rocks! She incorporates upbeat classical
Pilates for 50 minutes, ending with yoga and relaxation.
Both of these classes together is a full body workout you don't want
to miss.
Power
Pilates with a Ball
The Pilates exercise ball is incredible, in increasing flexibility,
range of motion, balance and coordination. You can sculpt and tone
your abdominal and back muscles using a ball. The Pilates ball is
ideal for training your arms, chest, and buttocks in addition to the
targeted abdominal and back muscles. The Pilates ball primary effect
is to gain tone and strength all over your body. It specifically emphasizes
your core muscles. The benefit of strengthening these muscles increase
the ability to walk, run, jump, and even sleep better than you have
been. Because this class is designed to strengthen the entire body
we incorporate floor exercises and light weights for a toned lean
body.
